Children are constantly observing the world around them, taking in information, and trying to make sense of their experiences. This includes forming ideas about who can and cannot do certain jobs based on identity characteristics such as gender, race, and/or ethnicity.
It is pertinent to the success of young children that they are introduced to the wide variety of careers accessible to them at a young age and they understand their ability to achieve any of them. This book is to promote self-reflection and perspective-taking by asking little brown children to imagine their futures. This book is not about choosing a specific path early on, but about stimulating children’s natural curiosity, showcasing various career paths, and exposing them to characters that look like them in those roles. With only 10% of professionals being African American or Black, early career exposure could very well assist in increasing the margins. This book was made to inspire little brown children to increase those margins and excite them to begin dreaming of the endless possibilities of their career paths.
I pray this book serves as a small seed and blooms beautiful and successful lives in our children. I urge every parent reading this book to take further steps in indulging in their child’s career choices.
